 Focus

As an environmental organization – P.O.W.E.R. aims to protect our ‘local’ environmental resources. Naturally, our organization has grown over the years as we have worked on various local matters. As such our environmental education and scope broadens.

P.O.W.E.R. was formed in 1987 by citizens concerned about a plan to turn the Acton quarry, on the Niagara Escarpment, into a garbage dump. The dump was stopped, but the importance of protecting water, environmental resources and ecology, and the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve, continues.

Our Focus section, concentrates on areas where P.O.W.E.R. has done the most work; Aggregates, Biodiversity, Local Wildlife, Pesticides, Provincial Land Use Planning & Region & Local Initiatives.

As our environment continues to be challenged, our challenge is to continue to educate ourselves and our community about what we can do to protect our water and environmental resources.
