Commission for Sustainable Development Waste Focus 2009 - 2011
P.O.W.E.R., in conunction with the Sustainable Halton Hills Initative of Sustainable Ontario is asking you for your contributions on best practices and gaps in waste reduction.  We are planning on hosting a waste workshop in early 2010 and in the meantime are looking for your problems and solutions in dealing with waste - waste is after all a resource we just don't know what to do with yet!

Incineration is not a solution:
There are some efforts and support for the idea of incinerating our resources we have not yet found a reuse for. Considering that all our waste is just a resource in waiting, and that the impact on the planet to use virgin resources is great, incineration is not a logical option. To move towards a sustainable society, we must implement sustainable consumption and production strategies around waste management.

While Halton has, for the time being, moved away from the idea of an incinerator, citizens from communities around the world are still trying to ensure logical options prevail in waste management.

Freecycle!!!
Instead of throwing items away, or putting them out for Bulk Garbage Pick up days, why not offer them locally to a Freecycle Group and find a new home for them, sparing the landfills. It's free to join, free to post, free to receive. All FREE. And you're doing your part for the environment. Georgetown and Acton both have networks.
